Mary Ellen Berglund
Robots, outer space, and sci-fi are a few of Mary Ellen Berglund’s passions. She has a unique background in art, fashion, and technology, having attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before transferring to the U of M. While at the U, she had the opportunity to intern at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in the WEAR (wearable electronics application and research) Lab, working on wearable technology. Additionally, she is an avid lover of costumes and theater, and uses theatrical elements in her fashion. She is also a small business owner, utilizing the skills acquired from the U of M by designing and manufacturing adorable fleece hats online at www.mrawpshop.com!
Mary’s line was inspired through her love of sci-fi and her experience as an intern at NASA. It reflects both futuristic and modern design elements that are prevalent in Mary’s favorite sci-fi fictions. It also explores functional design elements that could be used in outer space apparel in the (hopefully) not-so-distant future.
